What is 2-step verification?
Two-Step Verification (2SV) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource, such as the GiveDirect Control Panel. In addition to asking for a username and password, 2SV requires an additional verification factor, which decreases the likelihood of a successful cyber attack.
Why is Two-Step Verification Important to you and to GiveDirect?
The main benefit of 2SV is to enhance our security by requiring users to identify themselves by more than a username and password. While important, usernames and passwords are vulnerable to brute force attacks and can be stolen by third parties. Enforcing the use of a 2SV factor means increased confidence that your Control Panel data will stay safe from cyber criminals.
How Does 2SV work?
Two-Step Verification works by requiring additional verification information (factors). One of the most common verification factors that users encounter are one-time passwords (OTP). GiveDirect uses a 6-digit code (OTP) that will be sent to you via email. A new code will be generated each time an authentication request is submitted.
How To Enable 2-Step Verification
Change the 2-step verification toggle to YES.
Save your changes.
Now What?
The next time you log in, you will receive a message that your account is using 2-step Verification. Click the Green "Send Me The Code" button. Check your email and enter the code from the email into the field provided.
If you are using a trusted device (your normal home or office computer), you may click the "Trust this device" check box. If you do not click the trusted device check box, you will required to enter a code each time you log in.
Note: The trusted device status is good for six months. After the expiration date, you will need to repeat the 2-Step Verification process.
