Event Discount Codes

Looking to boost attendance and track your marketing efforts? Discount codes for your event registration form are a powerful tool.

Discount codes for an event can be used to accomplish the following:

  • Incentivize early sign-ups
  • Reward sponsors, VIPs, or loyal supporters
  • Reach new audiences
  • Track marketing efforts

To manage event discount codes, navigate to the Form Builder page for your event.

For assistance finding the Form Builder, see How to find the Form Builder.

On the Form Builder page, open the Event Options section.

Select the Discount codes tab.

Add a discount code

To add a discount code, click the Add A Code button at the bottom of the discount codes table.

  1. Year, Event Name, Status, Description

These fields are for your internal use to be able to track and manage your codes.

Year: If your event recurs annually, assign a year to the code to track which codes were used during certain years. If you do not enter a value, the current year will be auto-assigned to the field.

Event Name: This field is optional. If you do not enter a value, your form's nickname will be auto-assigned to the field.

Status: All codes must have a selected status of Active or Inactive.

Description: Use this optional field to leave notes for yourself and your team.

  1. Discount Code

Your discount code can contain up to 20 characters, but we recommend short, easy to remember codes, like 5OFF or SPONSOR25.

Discount codes are not case sensitive. If you publish a code that is all upper case, for example, and someone using the code enters it as lower case, the code will still be accepted.

  1. Discount Type

Discount codes can be a fixed dollar value like $10, or they can be a percentage value like 50%.

In the discount type field, you will enter whether your code is Fixed or Percent.

Discount codes are applied to the purchase total. If you have a fixed value code of $10 off, the amount will be applied to the total purchase amount, whether someone orders 1 or 3 tickets. The same is true of a percentage based discount.

  1. Discount Amount

Enter the discount amount in this field. If you are using a fixed dollar value like $10 off, then enter 10 in the field. If you are using a percentage based code, like Half Off, then enter 50 into the field for 50% of the total.

To create a discount code for free tickets, use a discount type of Percent and an Amount of 100. This will set the total amount of the purchase to 0 after the code is applied.

Once the code is applied on the registration form, the purchaser will see the total amount modified.

  1. Max times to redeem

This field tracks the number of tickets that have been purchased with the code. While the code's value is applied to the entire purchase, the max times field will count each individual ticket used with the code, even when multiple tickets are ordered with the same purchase.

This enables you to limit the number of times the code can be used.

If you want a code to be used an unlimited number of times, set the max times value to a very high number. If you are expecting 100 guests at your event, set the limit on your unlimited use code to 1000.

Example Use Case: Give your sponsors a discount code for free tickets

You want your event sponsors to receive two free tickets to your event.

  1. Create a discount code that is unique to each sponsor.
  2. Set each code to a type of Percent with an Amount of 100.
  3. Set the Max times redeemed to 2.
  4. Give the code to your sponsors.

Your sponsors or their guests can register their free tickets through your registration form using the discount code. Each ticket is counted up to the max times redeemed value. Tickets can be registered at different times by different people. Once the max times limit is reached, the code can no longer be used.

  1. Redemptions

The number of times a code has been redeemed is recorded in this field.

Example Use Case: Track a marketing campaign

You are advertising your event through a new channel. You can offer a small discount that is only offered through this channel to track how well this channel is performing.

  1. Create a unique discount code that you will use only for this marketing channel.
  2. Let's say you're offering a $5 discount, so set the type to Fixed and the Amount to 5.
  3. For an unlimited code, set the max times redeemed to a very high number, like 1000.
  4. Include the code in your advertising copy for this marketing channel.

Edit or Delete a discount code

To edit or delete a discount code, use the Edit button or the trash can icon next to the discount code name in the table.

Download discount codes

You can export your discount code list to Excel or CSV file. For Excel, click the button labeled 'Export to xlsx'. For CSV, click 'Export to csv'.

Filter the discount code list

By default, all discount codes are shown in the table. You can apply filters to the data to display only certain records.

For example, you can search for a particular code by selecting "Code" as the field to filter, "contains" as the method, and any full or partial search term in the value field.

You could also select "Redeemed" as the field to filter, > as the method, and enter 0 in the value field to filter your list to display only codes that have been redeemed.

In some cases, a text search may be case sensitive. If you do not find the data you expect to see, double check that you are using the correct case for your text.

Modify the table view

Click the button called Table Tips above any table to see a complete list of table options.

Wide tables use a horizontal scroll bar. Drag the scroll bar to see columns that are hidden beyond the table's container.

You may resize columns and you may drag columns to be in different positions.

When you export modified table data, the export file will preserve your modifications, including sort order, column order, and filters.
